Itinerary:

The guides leading the tour are all local mushers. They have a wealth of knowledge about the area and how to not ”just survive“ in the cold, but to thoroughly enjoy it.
You will be fully equipped (Arctic sleeping bag, sleeping mat, sledge outfit of nylon, boots), so that you are only responsible for bringing a minimum of extra clothes and other equipment. On this 6-day-long sledge journey, there can be one or two guests on each sledge besides the guide who is driving the sledge. We do offer the option of just having one guide and one guest per sledge, but we know from experience that it is much more enjoyable with three people. ”The more the merrier!“

Along the route there are hunting huts scattered throughout the area, where we will cook Greenlandic food in the evening. A primus or two can easily heat up the hut and make it nice and cosy. Most nights though we will overnight in our tents.

Before and after the journey you will stay at the local guesthouse in Ittoqqortoormiit (Scoresbysund). The guesthouse, located in the heart of town, has TV, shower, washing machine and a well-equipped, modern kitchen for you to cook your meals. Please keep in mind that it is a self-catering guesthouse.

After your arrival at Constable Point airport (CNP), you will continue your travel by helicopter to Ittoqqortoormiit. A representative of the guesthouse will meet you at the helipad and escort you to the guesthouse.

Later, we will meet at the tourist office where you will be equipped for the sledge journey. It is possible to store your luggage at the office the next morning if you do not want to bring everything along on the trip.

Day 1:

You will be picked up at the guesthouse and escorted to the sledges where your guides will await you. The sledges will be prepared and the dogs will beput in front of the sledges, excited to start the journey. We will divide into teams – each sledge is being pulled by a dog team of 10-12. Every day, the trip will start a bit dramatically, since the dogs are very impatient in the mornings – especially on this first day of the journey.

We will start out on the fjord ice and head for Kap Hope, a deserted village 12 km from Ittoqqortoormiit. We will make a short stopover there, which will give you time to take a look at the village. Afterwards, we continue on the ice and turn into the mouth of Hurry Fjord. From here it is a nice stretch on sea ice to our next destination and the dogs will eagerly pull the sledge. We will stop for lunch at a small cabin at Dom Brava.

Later that day, we will camp at the hut ”Gåsereden“ ("the goose nest“) and prepare a meal made out of Greenlandic supplies.

Day 2:

From Hurry Inlet the sledges continue through Ryders elv to the beautiful Store Fjord. We are now in a polar bear area as bears often follow the outer coast. There is also the chance of spotting seals on the fjord ice, and with a little luck, our guides may catch a seal for dinner. In May, the birds have returned to the bird cliffs. That means we will be able to see thousands of little auks, geese, and seabirds.

Day 3:

From Store Fjord we continue to the cabin in Nørre Fjord. The hut is newly built and located in a beautiful area. There are good chances of observing hares and foxes here. The area is very good for hiking, and not far from the hut, you can see little hot springs.

Day 4:

From Nørre Fjord we follow the outer coast southwards – just like the polar bears. You will have a fantastic view over the mountains, and as far as the eye can see, there are capes and peaks, one after another. You are able to see far in the Arctic air!

We will camp in tents at Kap Gregg and spend the night in this extraordinary area.

Day 5:

Our destination today are the two huts at Kap Høegh. On the way, we will pass by great bird cliffs on the way, and if we are very lucky, we will have the chance of observing polar bears on the way. During the day, the sledges will stop for short breaks, so everyone gets a chance to stretch legs, drink tea, and take pictures. While sledging, we will pass by huge mountains with living wildlife, which gives the opportunity of spotting foxes, snow hares, or seals on the ice.

Day 6:

From Kap Høegh the sledges cross over Lille Fjord and go up around a glacier to reach the land crossing to town. From top, we will have a great view over the area, before the sledges go fast downhill towards Ittoqqortoormiit and enter the town via the frozen river delta. A nice shower at the guesthouse and a good sleep in a real bed are waiting!

Departure Day :

An employee of the guesthouse will take your luggage to check-in. Shortly after, the helicopter leaves for Constable Point. Departure follows on the scheduled flight from CNP.

Be aware that the trip itinerary can be changed at short notice due to weather and snow conditions.
