Guided Photo Expedition to East Greenland
- An adventurous journey by dogsled

Hilmer & Koch in cooperation with Nanu Travel now allow you to join a unique and very exciting photo journey, which will undoubtedly be a great experience and a perfect opportunity to get fantastic images. During five days you will drive by dog sledge through the East Greenland's most beautiful nature while the magnificent landscapes with glaciers, high mountains and beautiful icebergs offers an endless range of subjects. The nature and the wildlife in the high Arctic is a chapter in itself and there is light most of the day so we have plenty of time to make some stunning photos. This is really the opportunity for a fantastic photo journey and we guarantee that it becomes a lifetime experience.

Your guide:
Your guide on the journey is nature photographer and former Sirius Patrol member Morten Hilmer, who has won several international awards with his Arctic pictures. Since there are only four seats at the sledge journey, we will work as a small team, all helping each other so we can get the really cool pictures to take home.

Price:
The price of the trip is 16,500 Danish Kroner and includes food and overnights during your stay in Greenland.
Price does not include flights to and from Greenland. We are very helpful with the procedure when ordering this ticket.

Motives:
On the trip there will be a good chance to se arctic hare, grouse and ravens, and there is also a chance to see arctic fox and musk ox. The chances of seeing seals on the ice are also good. In addition, snow bunting, gull species and possibly little auk (depends on when they arrive). Besides these species, several bird species. Polar bears move into the area where we drive, and it is not unlikely that we will have a look.
The magnificent landscape will surround us all the time, an landscape photography is possible all the time.

When you get home:
When you return after such a trip, there are many who are waiting to hear about your experiences, and you may want to write an article as well or for less than a hundred dollars you can print your own picture book on the Internet.
For all these purposes, it is nice with good reportage images, which you are on, and during the whole trip, Morten Hilmer will create images that will be sent to you on a DVD.

When : 8-12/5 - limited seats available

Program:

Day 1:
You arrive at Constable Point (CNP) airport and shortly after you land, the helicopter will fly you to Ittoqqortoormiit. The 12-minutes helicopter flight provides you with a beautiful view of Liverpool Land. In ittoqqortoormiit we are staying in the city's guesthouse, and after having unpacked our gear, all participants will meet at the tourist office. Here you will get a briefing about the sledge journey, and you will be equipped with clothes and boots for the sleigh ride. In the evening there is an examination of the principle of driving with dog sledges.

Day 2:
After a solid breakfast, we will go to the Tourist Office with the equipment, which is not needed at the journey. Then we go to the sledges, which must be prepared and packed. When everything is ready, we take off – the dogs are usually very impatient to get going.
We will start at the inlet ice and head for Cape Hope which is one of the two deserted settlements in the area. In Cape Hope we have a short break with time to look at the village. Afterwards we continue on the ice and shortly after we will arrive to the end of the frozen Hurry Fjord. From here there is a nice long and flat ride to the days destination.
We will stop and eat lunch at the Dump Brava, which is a small hut, which can give us shelter if the wind is blowing. We will travel close to land, eagerly searching for grouse and arctic hares. In May, the chances to see seals on the ice is very good. We aim to camp in Store Sødal where we prepare a meal, which is made of Greenlandic ingredients.
After a good meal it is time for a trip into the mountains, or you can go off on your own.

Day 3:
Today we will drive through one of the most beautiful parts of Liverpool Land. From having driven on the ice, we are now running overland from "Gåsereden" to the outer coast through "Lime Valley". Here we are led through a stunning beautiful scenario with sharp peaks and glaciers. In the valley we will pass two lakes and a hanging glacier.
The valley narrows as we approach the outer coast and the mountains are surrounding us in a higher degree. The day’s trip itself has some interesting moments where the two sledge drivers must prove their skills and show full control over the dogs.
We can now see how the shape of the mountains is changing - from the plateau in the mountains inland to the steep alpine mountains along the outer coast.
On the sea ice in Horsens Fjord we know a small lake, which is created by the heat undercurrents. This "thermal lake” attracts many species of birds, as it is open all year. If we are lucky we will find birds on this location, and no matter what we will camp in this area.

Day 4:
This will be a very nice day on the sledge, and the cameras are really in use today. We will pass several bird cliffs, which are inhabited by numerous birds from the beginning or middle of May. Here we will spend some time depending on the activity.
In this area there are good chances to observe the seals on the ice and if we are very lucky - polar bears.
We are camping in tents, either at the impressive Emanuelgletsjer’s front or at the Cape Gregg and we will stay for the night in this magnificent landscape. In the evening we will spend some time to get nice photos of the landscapes, the birds and hopefully hares, foxes and seals.

Day 5:
Today we will travel to Cape Høeg, where we will spend the rest of the day by photographing hares in the mountains. There are often observed many hares at this location and they are not very shy. There is always the opportunity to photograph the very beautiful landscape and you can go on your own if you will prefer.

Day 6:
From Cape Høeg there is 35 km to Ittoqqortoormiit. We will follow the coastline south until we reach Little Fjord.
In Little Fjord we will stop at a small hut and eat lunch before we take the final ride. While the dogs pull the sled up a steep glacier, we leave the sea ice behind us for the last time on this sled travel. From the top of the glacier we will have a spectacular view over the land behind and in front of us. After making some nice landscapes we will start the fast descent towards Ittoqqortoormiit and arrive in the city through the frozen river. Now a hot shower is really needed, and after this we will go to the arctic barbecue that has been made for us. The rest of the evening is devoted to relax and to tell stories from the trip.

Day 7:
After breakfast, our luggage will be loaded at the guesthouse, and it will be checked in and driven to the helicopter, which will take off in the morning and fly us to Constable Point. From there you will go to Reykjavik with a scheduled flight.

Be aware that the route can be changed at short notice due to weather and snow.
